Event Recap: Soar X Davy ‘Nurturing the Next Generation’
On Tuesday 7th November we gathered for a magical evening featuring guest speakers Richard Hogan, a renowned family therapist and author, and Jen Hogan, an award-winning journalist and parenting expert, as well as four phenomenal teenagers who have been impacted by the work of Soar in recent weeks.
The discussions covered topics such as anxiety, pornography, self-talk, teenagers needs and the impact of honest conversations with your peers.
We believe in the voice of teenagers and that platforming them can guide us on how best to serve them. The key message that the teenagers left us with last night is that as adults, they just want us to truly listen more, and not to just say that we’re listening.
I feel like teenagers are perceived as reckless... It’s not like that. We want to explore what we can, but if we’re not given that chance, we’re going to go out of our way to do that”
“It’s ok to be ok. Ok is what most of us are, I can’t expect to be brilliant all the time!”
“It’s more beneficial to establish a safe space when you’re younger, because then you can build it up and it comes with more ease as you grow.”
