The Problem

The methods of preparing teenagers for life clearly isn’t working. This is a long-standing problem with significant consequences because we are dealing with teenagers at such a critical tipping point of their lives.

#1 COMPLEX, VOLATILE, AND RAPIDLY CHANGING WORLD

WE'RE FOR TEENAGERS

WE'RE FOR TEENAGERS

Due to the technology in our hands, this reality is bombarding teenagers 24 hours a day. Being a teenager is already a complex time. They are undergoing massive neurological and physiological changes. Now combine the complexity of being a teenager, with a bombardment of constant messaging, and the ‘always on’ nature of social media expectations – it’s a recipe for pressure and overwhelm.

#2 SYSTEM NOT FIT-FOR-PURPOSE

Our education system is very limited as we continue to prepare teenagers for exams and jobs as a priority, while leaving the personal development of teenagers as a secondary consideration.

Teachers who care tell us all the time they see the needs of their students but they don’t have the time, the skills, or the confidence to address those needs. There is a gaping hole in how we prepare teenagers for life.

Societies approach to wellbeing is reactionary and focused on curative action as we wait for problems to arise, then try get help for teenagers in a completely overwhelmed system.

The Soar Solution

Since 2012, Soar has always been the vanguard in Ireland when it comes to a preventative approach to teenage wellbeing. We do not want to wait until problems have arisen. That is not what teenage years should be about. We want to prepare teenagers to thrive, to embrace opportunity, to find purpose, to understand themselves. And yes, have the resilience and self- sustainability to cope with the inevitable challenges that are a part of life.
